Corrections and disputes

Who can file

Anyone: readers, news outlets, candidates, and others whose statements appear on Verum Signal, including on debate pages.

What you can dispute

• A claim's verdict.
• The speaker a claim is attributed to.
• The wording of an extracted claim, if it doesn't reflect what was said or written.
• Anything published under your name on a debate page, including whether you said it.

Outlet scores are calculated from claim verdicts, so they change only when a claim's outcome changes.

How to file

Use "Dispute this claim" on any claim page, the dispute form, or email disputes@verumsignal.com. Include a link to the claim and the evidence you're relying on.

What happens next

A person reviews each dispute against the published methodology. We aim to respond within 10 business days. A dispute is either upheld, declined with the reason, or answered with a request for more information.

When a dispute is upheld

The claim is re-checked under the methodology, or corrected. Its page shows a correction note saying what changed and when, and the change is recorded in the claim's history. Outlet scores update automatically from the corrected verdict.

What's public

Corrections are public on the claim's page. Dispute submissions and your contact details are not published.

How long we keep disputes

A reviewed dispute and its correspondence are deleted after two years. A dispute that has not yet been reviewed is kept until it is.
