Every verdict follows our published methodology — how we check claims.

There is no filter by person. A page narrowed to one individual is a claim history about that individual, and we do not build those.

Why this verdict View evidenceHide evidence
Why we checked itSpecific claim that California has had the highest cost of living in the country for sixteen years — verifiable against cost of living indices and rankings over that period
What we foundCalifornia consistently ranks among the highest-cost states in the country, and is #1 by the BEA's federal measure, but other widely-used indexes rank it 2nd or 3rd behind Hawaii and Massachusetts, making the absolute claim of 'highest in the country' dependent on which methodology is used.
