Every verdict follows our published methodology — how we check claims.

There is no filter by person. A page narrowed to one individual is a claim history about that individual, and we do not build those.

We live in a state that has a hundred and fifty thousand addicted Mainers. Ten percent of those over twelve are addicted.

Why this verdict View evidenceHide evidence
Why we checked itSpecific figures on the number of addicted Mainers and the percentage of residents over 12 affected by addiction — verifiable against public health and substance use data for Maine.
What we foundThe 150,000 figure is broadly in the right ballpark for some narrower addiction definitions, but the '10 percent of those over 12' figure is not supported — authoritative sources consistently report the rate at approximately 8.64%, and the broader SUD total (including alcohol) in the most recent NSDUH data is closer to 249,000, not 150,000.
